The Prairie Brass Band will be returning to The Washington Island Trueblood Performing Arts Center on Saturday, September 28th at 7:30 PM. The program, titled Music from Brassed Off and More!, will feature pieces from the iconic movie, Brassed Off on the first half, including soloist Tom Henehan playing Rodrigo’s "Aranjuez con Tu Amor” for flugelhorn (pictured here). Tom was awarded Best Soloist at the US OPEN Brass Band Championships in 2015.
The second half will feature music drawn from the Band’s entertainment competition repertoire. Soloists abound (group picture) in this fast paced and varied program, titled “The Beat Goes On”. David Fencl, (Best soloist at the 2018 US Open Brass Band Championships), Mark Fenne and Dan Powers will present “Song of Hope” arranged for 3 cornets. Daniel Gingrich, French hornist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra will perform a Rondo by Mozart in memory of Norman Schweikert (Island resident and member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra). Jen Partyka (trombone) and Clark Niermeyer (drums) will cap off the night to solo with the band in a driving rendition of the swing tune, "Sing, Sing Sing".
